Maytag Washer Error Codes
What each code on a Maytag washer display means, what you can safely check yourself, and when it needs a technician. Codes differ between model years: the list for your exact model is on the sticker inside the door or lid, or in the manual.
First, for any code: unplug the washer for one minute (or switch off its breaker) and start a short cycle. If the code comes back, use the table below.
| Code | What it means | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| F8E1 / LF | Long fill. | Water valves, hose screens, water pressure. |
| F9E1 / F21 | Long drain. | Drain hose, standpipe, pump filter. |
| F5E2 / LO FL | Lid or door will not lock. | Clear the latch; repeated codes mean the lock. |
| F7E1 | Basket will not turn. | Smaller load; repeated codes need a technician. |
| F5E1 | Lid or door switch fault. | Needs a switch check. |
| F5E3 | Lid or door will not unlock. | Unplug for a minute; if it stays locked, the lock assembly. |
| F3E1 | Pressure (water level) sensor fault. | Needs a sensor and hose check. |
| F1E1 / F01 | Main control board fault. | Unplug for five minutes; if it returns, the board. |
| uL | Unbalanced load. | Redistribute and level. |
| Sd / Sud | Too many suds. | Less HE detergent; run a rinse. |
